This week’s blog topic… Colour. Yes, with a ”u” because we are Canadian.
I think that everybody kind of knows that certain colours mean certain things, but after Monday’s lecture I learnt that it represents so much more than a meaning. It gives a mood to the consumer that the creator wants to get out of them.
I really enjoyed this picture that our teacher shared with us.

I thought it does such a great job in explaining all the different elements of colour and their meaning.
For our blog post we also have to find logos, ads etc that have great use of colour. I found the following ones.
1. Pop Chips ad with Katy Perry

First off, I love these ads! I find that they are so short but effective. And pretty simple as well. The background colour of red really gives off the ”vampire” feel but it also is true to its meaning… hunger. Pretty sure that everyone in my class will always be hungry when they see red.
I think that because of the lecture and learning the different meanings, I do understand the hunger part of the ad now, whereas before I would have only thought of blood and vampires.

The main objective of this advertisement is to make woman want to buy their new ”clean” makeup line. Usually most CoverGirl ads have lots of colour to them, but I believe that by just keeping it simple and white they really make it ”clean” looking. The white is pure and fancier. If they had a bright purple instead for example, I definitely think the same message/mood would not be conveyed.

Here is our own school logo. After the lecture, I gave this logo a second look and realized that the colours were not chosen by random. Blue represents a productive colour –well we are at school– and the yellow brightens things up and gives energy. The two together make a great team in my opinion. It would be really interesting to be in the team that goes through the process of chosen school colours.

The famous Starbucks. Have you ever realized that Starbucks has never advertised for its store? Not even a single commercial! That is pretty cool since they are such a success. The logo is really interesting, I am currently reading ”Onward”, the story about how Starbucks started out and can’t wait to get to the point where they explain the logo. Anyways, the green in it helps with their ”health” and ”tranquility ” image. Starbucks is a spot for relaxing with a cup of coffee or enjoying catching up with a friend. The green also goes with a environment friendly theme.
Colour is SUCH an important part of everything, especially the media world! Now every time that I look around me, I will for sure ask myself ”how did they chose that colour?”.
