To start off, having experienced tonight’s iPhone Wifi/iOS6 craziness, it is safe to say that I rely way too much on the digital world. I was planning on doing lots of homework, but of course all of it entailed using the internet, so when my computer wouldn’t connect to my Wifi I thought I was screwed.
The first place I went to to figure out why it wasn’t working was Twitter. I checked the trending topics, and surprise wifi was trending. I found out that Apple is having lots of problems with Wifi connection with MacBooks, iPhones and iPads… all because of the new software update: the amazing iOS 6. I can sadly say that I have been waiting forever for this update because it finally means Siri can have a purpose! Anywho – I checked lots of links people have posted with tips to fix the problem and I finally fixed the problem on my Macbook, but not my iPhone…
I am currently still in the process to fix it… I just reset my network settings and now am trying to download the new software. Even thought it keeps resetting on me, I am determined to fix it. Sure I could still use my data but of course you have to run the update on Wifi. Great job Apple.
Right now, I have spent way too long trying to fix this problem instead of doing homework. This probably wouldn’t have happened if we still used books to do research… I personally think that the digital world has become part of us. To refer back to our lecture about our Digital Footprint, because everything we do today has in some way to do with the digital world, not having a digital footprint is hard.
I recently googled myself and found my trip blog that I kept when I was volunteering in Peru last year for 3 months was the first thing on the list. Afterwards was an article that I was in that I had no idea even existed… It was about a Mental Health Awareness campaign I did at my high school, and someone wrote something about it. Because I don’t have my full name on Twitter, it didn’t come up in the search which gives me some hope that my whole self is not all over the internet.
My opinion about our Digital footprint
I think their is a limit of how much we should share on the internet just for privacy issues…but then again, listening to the lecture, it doesn’t give me much hope that we even have anything private on the internet. Myself personally I don’t like posting that many pictures of things on Facebook and letting people know where I am by updating my status and showing on a ‘map’ of where I am, so I am hoping that not everything about me is accessible by a click of a button.
One thing that really stood out to me in class was when our teacher mentioned that the digital world isn’t replacing our world today – it is just an extension of it. So many people today (aka older generations) think that our younger generation is spending way too much time in the digital world instead of ”living life”… As much as I think a nice walk in the park every so often is needed, I think that the digital world is just becoming a new way to interact with the world and it isn’t all a bad thing. What really scares is to think what the digital world will evolved into in little as 10 years – if you think about it, it’s crazy.
Updated on Wifi situation: still not working 😦 looks like I’m sticking to old school DVDs to catch up on Grey’s Anatomy.
